

Jennifer Zechel
Senior Researcher at the Centre for Natural Products and Medical Cannabis (CNPMC) at Loyalist College
As the Senior Researcher at the Centre for Natural Products and Medical Cannabis (CNPMC) at Loyalist College, Jenn provides expertise and acts in an advisory capacity on industry partner applied research projects, and to other researchers and technical staff. She also leads several individual applied research projects from research planning to project completion and reporting.
Jenn is also a faculty member in the Biosciences programs at Loyalist College since 2017, focusing primarily on teaching microbiology and molecular biology to technician and technology program students.
Jenn brings a wealth of laboratory research experience to her role as Senior Researcher, including developing the honey bee testing program in the Animal Health lab at the University of Guelph. She was the lab manager and researcher in the department of experimental neurosurgery at Case Western Reserve University, overseeing students and neurosurgery residents in stroke and ischemia research, before moving to manage a lab in the department of genetics. She has a B.Sc. in Honours biology from Western University, and a diploma in Respiratory Therapy from Fanshawe College. Jenn completed her M.S. at Case Western Reserve University (Cleveland, OH) in biochemistry. She also obtained her PhD in genetics from Case Western, focusing on the genetics of DeadEnd1 in testicular germ cell tumour and metastases.
Throughout her academic journey Jenn has published over a dozen articles in peer-reviewed journals in a range of disciplines.
