Accelerating Startups by Design is Ontario Genomics' annual synthetic biology pitch competition wherein start-ups utilizing synthetic biology get the opportunity to pitch their companies in front of a panel of all-stat investors. The winning pitch will take home the prize of $10,000 CAD courtesy of IndieBio.

Eligibility

  • Startups must be based in Canada

  • Incorporated on or after January 1, 2020 (pre-incorporation companies are eligible but must incorporate if they’re successful and before receiving any funds)  

  • Raised less than $500,000 in funding 

  • Products or services being developed must be a synthetic biology/engineering biology technology or enabled by these technologies in any relevant sector (eg. Bioproducts, health, food, agriculture, natural resources, etc.)

  • Companies must have an IP strategy 

  • Companies must demonstrate access to lab resources as required

Terms

  • The funding is offered as a grant, without any ownership stake in the company or any intellectual property being taken by Ontario Genomics or its partners 

  • Periodic reporting on the impact of the funding received will be required 

  • Detailed terms will be provided in the funding agreement
