PITCH COMPETITION APPLICATION FORM

Eligibility

Startups must be based in Canada
Incorporated on or after January 1, 2020 (pre-incorporation companies are eligible but must incorporate if they’re successful and before receiving any funds)
Raised less than $500,000 in funding
Products or services being developed must be a synthetic biology/engineering biology technology or enabled by these technologies in any relevant sector (eg. Bioproducts, health, food, agriculture, natural resources, etc.)
Companies must have an IP strategy
Companies must demonstrate access to lab resources as required

Prize & Terms

Companies will compete for a grand a prize package valued at $18,000
The funding is offered as a grant, without any ownership stake in the company or any intellectual property being taken by Ontario Genomics or its partners
Periodic reporting on the impact of the funding received will be required
Detailed terms will be provided in the funding agreement

1. Describe the problem that you are working to solve (including the market size and opportunity).

2. Describe your technology, product or service and how it employs engineering/synthetic biology.

3. What is the competitive landscape and how are you differentiated from competitors; are you developing a novel product or innovating on an already existing product?

4. Provide a description of your team, include any expertise that will contribute to your company’s success and your near-term hiring plans if additional expertise is needed.

5. Do you have access to lab space and the equipment that will be required? If you’re working with partners, do they have the necessary expertise and equipment that will be required?

6. What are your near-term milestones (in the next 12 months)? What is next major milestone that will help you to raise additional funding?

7. Describe your business model, IP strategy and estimated timeline to market.

8. How will you use the prize money towards your next milestone (can include salaries, consumables, IP costs)?
