Fireside Chat - Bioengineering for Biomining: On the Earth and Beyond
Sponsored by Genome BC

Microorganisms can catalyze the extraction of valuable elements from rocks, such as copper and gold, via biomining, not just on the Earth but also in Space (or, more precisely, at the International Space Station). In the process, they can also support bioremediation, thus lowering the environmental footprint. The question is: can the process work at scale? How far are we to realize these substantial benefits from these tiny organisms? Let’s discuss it!
